30,000 people are protesting in the streets of Melbourne, Australia currently in opposition to the policies of Tony Abbot, the Prime Minister. These protests are about unions, environmental protection, animals, and the postal service. The protest is being called March for March and has swept over the citizens of Melbourne in no time. Also, Malaysian Airline Flight 370 that infamously got lost in the Indian Ocean earlier this week is now being suspected of being somewhere around Perth, AU. This is what people are claiming to be the "most likely last position" of the Boeing jet. And last, but certainly not least, Australia is abolishing tax on Carbon. This will greatly lower the cost of living in Australia and better benefit any poor people who are struggling paying for housing. This will also boost Australia's economy and lower the prices of electricity.

The United States media is currently refusing to cover the Ukrainian protests, so I have to. They start with the the President, Viktor Yanukovych, rejecting an accord with the European Union in order to gain a better relationship with neighboring Russia. This wasn't what the citizens of western Ukraine wanted. All the protesters want is for the President to resign. Most of the starting protests were mainly peaceful, but the police started shooting protesters with snipers and AK-47s. Police also were kidnapping the protesters that were hospitalized and beat and killed them. The protests have been increasingly getting more violent, with protesters having to form their own defense groups. Now, every day people are being killed. The worst day was February 20 in Kiev, where 77 people were killed and 600 wounded.

ISIL militants have taken a Syrian girl by the name of Fatoum Al-Jassem to a religious court. In a recent vote by 68 of the world's larger nations, the US topped the list as the biggest threat to the safety of the world. Not only did countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa vote against the United States, but even our allies such as Turkey and Greece. A whopping 24 percent of the world views the US as the largest threat. Pakistan came in second place with 8 percent. Next was China with 6 percent. Even some US citizens who voted believed that the US was the largest threat with 13 percent of them voting their own country. Even though the US is currently regarded as the most dangerous country in the world, most people who voted also chose the US as the country they would be most likely to move to.
17 people died the other day in a suicide bombing in the village of Volgograd, Russia. Today, it's estimated that 14 were killed and another 20 were injured. Security is currently being tightened in rail stations and airports in Russia. In 2014 the Winter Olympics will be held in the city of Sochi, which is close to this northern region of the country where the bombings are taking place. This is a deadly reminder that holding the Winter Olympics near the troubled republics of Chechnya and Dagestan isn't the best idea. A 60 year old man named Pietro Lamberti was caught in his bed naked with an 11 year old girl. The judge said that she 'underestimated' their love relationship and let the man go freely. The court had interviewed the offender and the girl, and decided that back then the now 13 year old girl was in love with Lamberti. However, after the Italian court made this decision Italian citizens were outraged, posting on social networks about it. The court then took all this talk on the internet as proof he was a pedophile. A new trial is to take place.
It has been three years since the tsunami that caused the Fukishima nuclear meltdown; yet Japan is just now starting cleanup. The people cleaning up are an army of workers getting paid $60 a day to decontaminate the area. The famous Japanese gang, the Yakuza, are hiring all of the homeless people to work at minimum wage. Only recently in October of 2013 was the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, open to international help for the cleanup. The Japanese government has severely overlooked the situation, and it is a dangerous one. This has been the largest nuclear incident in decades, and is affecting the entire world. Recently this year it was discovered that fish in the Pacific ocean off of the coast of California had deformities. This was being caused by nuclear waste from the plant leaking into the ocean. |
