The United States media is currently refusing to cover the Ukrainian protests, so I have to. They start with the the President, Viktor Yanukovych, rejecting an accord with the European Union in order to gain a better relationship with neighboring Russia. This wasn't what the citizens of western Ukraine wanted. All the protesters want is for the President to resign. Most of the starting protests were mainly peaceful, but the police started shooting protesters with snipers and AK-47s. Police also were kidnapping the protesters that were hospitalized and beat and killed them. The protests have been increasingly getting more violent, with protesters having to form their own defense groups. Now, every day people are being killed. The worst day was February 20 in Kiev, where 77 people were killed and 600 wounded.

After years of protests and government instability, the Egyptian President has stepped down. He has asked the current Prime Minister to run government affairs. A new Prime Minister will be selected by the cabinet soon. Egypt is moving movement after having been in a unstable place since 2011.
The Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro has banned public protest. Now, in response, many Venezuelans are in the street protesting a strong government, heavy inflation, and a skyrocketing crime rate. Here are three pictures from the protests. ISIL militants have taken a Syrian girl by the name of Fatoum Al-Jassem to a religious court. The judge called Facebook a "tantamount to adultery" and ruled that the girl be stoned to death for having one. Syria has been experiencing constant terrorism and rebel attacks since March of 2011.
Customers who bought Walmart's new Five Spice Donkey Meat can go and get their money back. Walmart has warned buyers that the product "may or may not contain fox meat." Donkey Meat is a popular snack in China, where Chinese regulators found fox meat in some of the product. This is bringing up trust questions about China and food safety.
In a recent vote by 68 of the world's larger nations, the US topped the list as the biggest threat to the safety of the world. Not only did countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa vote against the United States, but even our allies such as Turkey and Greece. A whopping 24 percent of the world views the US as the largest threat. Pakistan came in second place with 8 percent. Next was China with 6 percent. Even some US citizens who voted believed that the US was the largest threat with 13 percent of them voting their own country. Even though the US is currently regarded as the most dangerous country in the world, most people who voted also chose the US as the country they would be most likely to move to.
A 60 year old man named Pietro Lamberti was caught in his bed naked with an 11 year old girl. The judge said that she 'underestimated' their love relationship and let the man go freely. The court had interviewed the offender and the girl, and decided that back then the now 13 year old girl was in love with Lamberti. However, after the Italian court made this decision Italian citizens were outraged, posting on social networks about it. The court then took all this talk on the internet as proof he was a pedophile. A new trial is to take place.
China now banned the new game Battlefield 4 after learning of the DLC, 'China Rising.' On the DLC, the United States military fights the Chinese military. This is what the Chinese government had to say, and I admit, it's quite alarming: Confucius said: Never give a sword to a man who can't dance. We've spent decades making their toys, their shoes and even their flags. All the while enduring their condescension, and biding our time. Ane finally the moment has come. Now they will know our greatness. Let's dance. Video games seem to be the newest way to discredit another country's image as a form of cultural penetration. Citizens in a country are buying products that make their country look horrible, even after that country works hard to make the other look great. Two Pakistan residents, Riaz and Ijaz Ahmed, claimed to have seen God back in 2011. Seeing God in Pakistan is strictly illegal, and they are now being faced with death, convicted of 'blasphemy.' They are both being charged 100,000 rupees and were handed death sentences. Pakistani religious extremists run the news stations in the country, and 50 out of 365 days were dedicated to a religious broadcasts. Pakistan's residents are contributing such harsh punishments to the return of jihad in the nation. The extremists reject all ideas of art, culture, philosophy, or freedom of speech.
The smartest animal in the world has recently been caught using pufferfish to get high. The dolphins chew on the pufferfish, which are known to release a toxin that protects themselves from harm. In small doses, the nerve toxin seems to have a narcotic like effect on the dolphins. The dolphins pass the pufferfish around, all chewing on it, then in a study done while filming a new BBC series on marine life, the dolphins were seen hanging out near the surface with their noses it. It seems that they were mesmerized by their own reflection. The dolphins also know their drugs, going specifically to the pufferfish and making sure to handle it with care. |
