A leading conservation group has now officially declared the Western Black Rhinoceros extinct. And two other rhino subspecies are very close to the same fate. The Javan Rhino is now extinct in Vietnam, with only a small declining population surviving on the Indonesian island of Java. And the Northern White Rhino of central Africa is possibly extinct in the wild. All of the rhinos are becoming extinct because they are being poached for their horns. The Western Black Rhino's population was down to 10 in the year 1980. And the Javan Rhino's population currently sits around 40-60.
